The thing about Pleasing Others

Why do people give? And why do people cheer up others?

Why are people nice? Why are people caring?

In my opinion, giving, or caring, brings happiness to ourselves too. Seeing the significant other happy, or at least feeling better because of you just boosts your self esteem.

That you are useful, and kind. That you are worth something.

And sometimes, we have specific people. People who are nearer and dearer to us, and their happiness brings you more happiness compared to others.

And sometimes, that feeling is as strong and addictive as drugs. It forces your heart to want more and more, and there's just no enough. And sometimes, even, we sacrifice our own well being to please that someone....

Just to see that glimmer of smile because of you. Just to feel that hint of happiness. To fall into 5 minutes of ecstasy.

But then, after everyone had left us, we were left to wonder...

"Will anyone ever do the same to me?"

And it crushes you. It erases all your self-esteem, confidence, and happiness. The feeling that you are not worth anything anymore.

And when you fall into that hole, some never surfaced again.

I guess now I just need someone to write behind my math notebook, scribbling in on how great I am. And that I should be happy.

Oh.
